Easy Guide To Creating The Kaleidoscope Effect On Your Photos

By Ann Collins

The world seems to have a natural kaleidoscope feel especially when you gaze into the horizon. This effect is fascinating and when applied gives your images an improved feel. The kaleidoscope effect allows you to form repetitive patterns that are dazzling to the eyes. It is a way of producing a naturally appearing and seamless collage. Here is an easy way of doing it on Photoshop and achieving excellent results.

The hexagon offers an easy and simple shape to base your motif on. It is, in fact, a natural plate to mold your images. On a blank Photoshop page of A4 size, create a hexagon of a convenient size to work with. You are at liberty to increase the number of sides but it might complicate your work. Identify the center by drawing a vertical and diagonal line. The two lines will also be used to construct a triangle.

Draw a line from the center of your hexagon to one corner. It will create a triangle with the new line and the original vertical or horizontal line forming two sides. The base of your triangle will be formed by the sized of the hexagon. The size of triangle determines the dimensions of your pattern.

It is time to import your base image to a new Photoshop page. The imported image should be of the highest quality possible. This ensures that the final image is also of a high quality. Before commencing on development of your patterns, removal all undesired elements or marks on your image. You should also consider adjustments like decreasing white and increasing black to make it clearer.

Pick the triangle developed at the hexagon section and drag it over the image. The triangle helps you to develop the collage over your image. You are at liberty to change the size of your triangle. Move it around as you make a decision on section you wish to apply the collage.

On a new page or platform, develop your pattern or patterns for use in making the collage. There are excellent paint brushes, sprays, ink and other tools for creating graphics. This is where you exercise creativity. On a different layer, apply the patterns on your image. To make the patterns more pronounced, increase black and decrease white. This action makes the images clearer.

The patterns created are pasted on the corners of triangular segment. Ensure that all patterns pasted are identical in order to achieve a uniform feel. The background of the patterns should be deleted or clear. Different patterns may be used on the same image. After placing the patterns on your image, the opacity is then boosted to 100 percent to increase clarity.

Once the patterns have been placed on the image, extract the triangular section and return it to the hexagon. It is inserted in duplicates with edges that seem to reflect each other. It is these reflections that create the kaleidoscope element. Once the hexagon is filled, it is duplicated just like the triangle until desired size of image is achieved. Crop the resulting image to shape.
