Grand Haven Bail Bonds Can Help To Secure Release From Custody

By Peter Butler

Very few experiences are as stressful as being arrested. Yet numerous upstanding citizens find themselves in this situation every year. People make mistakes. They drink and drive, they withhold taxes and they take unnecessary chances. Whatever the reason for being arrested, it is vitally important to obtain help from a criminal defence attorney straight away. The attorney will, amongst other things, make sure than Grand Haven bail bonds are made available if they are needed.

Every accused has the right to request to be released until the case is heard. Soon after being arrested and charged, the accused will attend a hearing where his request for release is heard. First offenders, those that pose no danger to themselves or society and those that have roots in the community are routinely granted their request. However, they are required to pay a set amount to serve as security that they will appear in court.

If the accused is unable to raise the amount that must be paid as security he can apply for an instant loan from a bondsman. A bondsman pay security on behalf of arrested individuals. They operate at police stations and in and around the courts. Many bondsmen have agents scouting for potential clients. Experts say that a bondsman should only be approached as a last resort.

Not everybody qualifies for help from a bondsman. They require that the client provide adequate security in the form of assets for the loan. The client will be asked to sign a legal agreement according to which he agrees to pay back the loan by a certain date and to pay a service fee that can be anything between ten and fifteen per cent of the loan amount.

It is understandable that accused simply want to go home and this is why so many loan applicants sign contracts with bondsmen without even reading the terms and conditions of the contract. He best course of action is to ask the attorney to handle the matter. They have experience in these matters and they often know which bondsman is the most reliable and reasonable.

Once the contract is signed and the security paid there is no going back. The client will have to pay a service fee of up to fifteen per cent of the loan amount. If he fails to honour any of the conditions of the loan the bondsman will repossess the assets that were offered as security. Facing such a calamity while criminal charges are still looming can have disastrous consequences.

It is just as important to strictly adhere to the conditions of release stipulated by the court. Failure to do so can result in being arrested once more and additional charges to be laid. The money paid as security will be lost. The accused may have to stay in custody until his case comes to trial and this may take months. Trying to flee from justice is even worse. When re apprehended the accused will not be shown any leniency.

Bondsmen provide a valuable service. Thousands of people that are arrested would have no choice but to remain in custody after arrest because they are simply not able to raise the bail amount. A bondsman van help them to return to their families and to continue earning a living.
