The Transformational Millenium Tower Boston

By Sally Delacruz

Sky scrappers change the skyline of any city. This is what Millenium Tower Boston is about to do once completed. It is situated in Downtown Crossing where Filenes Flagship store once stood. The project has faced handles in its process of construction but is on the final leg. The building will stand tall among other buildings in the area.

The tower seeks to offer a combination of office space, residential condos and commercial space for business. The budget currently stands at 700 million dollars. Partners currently running the project are Gale international and Vornado. They will give a new look to the site that was previously occupied by Filenes.

The 39 story building is expected to hold a dynamic combination of clients on each section. Some of the space is designed to hold a 280-room hotel. There is room for a restaurant with a sitting capacity of 125 guests. 475,000 square feet or 44,100 meter square are reserved for office space. Dynamic tenancy is expected to provide an incredible living and working area.

28,000 meters square or 300,000 square feet will be occupied by commercial tenants. The condos are designed to offer 1, 2 and 3 bedroom spaces. It also has an adjacent park for use by tenants hosted within the complex.

The original plans were abandoned after the initial investors lacked funds. Some sections had taken off including excavations. This left gaping holes on site and abandoned structures formally owned by the original store. Some of them date back to 1950-1970s. Construction permits were suspended by authorities in Boston after the site was abandoned.

Millennium Partners took over the project in 2012 and got the approval to construct two buildings. They will have a combined space of 1.2 million square feet. The design still provided for commercial and residential space. The entry of these partners has revived hopes that the building will be completed and occupied.

One major tenant to sign up for occupancy is Arnold Worldwide. He penned a signature on the contract on April 13 2013. This was a big boost to the construction and completion of this project. The ground breaking ceremony was held on September 17th 2013. Thomas M Menino, the former mayor of the city was in attendance during the ceremony.

26th April 2014 saw the area break the city record for the largest concrete pour. Six hundred cubic meters of concrete were poured by six hundred lorries. This marked the initial steps in constructing the slab to hold the tower. Roche Brothers groceries have also signed up for space.

Upon completion the complex will take position among the three tallest residential towers. Tenants have a chance to choose between one, two and three bedroom condos. Even though the lobby is facing Franklin Street, the address has been listed as 426 Washington Street.

The area is known for its gated lifestyle and the complex seeks to bring some excitement. This explains why many people are waiting for its completion. The design is developed by architects who came up with Union Station in D. C. As well as Flatiron Building that defines Manhattan skylines. It is expected to transform the skyline in Boston and life along the street.
